Cue opportunities for facilities companies and dodgy cooking analogies…

Reports highlighting the strain on school places have triggered much head scratching around the country about how these pressures can be eased. It is estimated that an extra 256,000 places will be needed by September 2014.

It’s a problem but it may also be an opportunity for you to promote your services.

Here are the cold hard facts:

240,000 of these extra places are required in Primary Schools

Over 20% of Primary Schools are currently full or over capacity

A third of these new places are required in London alone

Schools are like stewing pots for the next generation of scientists, inventors and film stars but we’re in danger of not having big enough pots (schools) to cram in all the ingredients (children). We may have to try and cram too many ingredients into too few pots resulting in a less delicious (productive) stew (generation). OK, I apologise that analogy was pretty strained, but the point is that children are too important to do nothing about this situation: solutions will be found along with the money required to fund them.

In the next year schools across the country are going to have to find a way of accommodating this influx of extra pupils. There has already been an upsurge of schools using portable classrooms while others have begun looking into ways of adapting their existing buildings in order to optimise classroom space.

Can your company offer a solution (increase the size of our pots….. OK I’ll stop it now!)? If so the next couple of months will be the ideal time to tell schools about it as they will look to schedule premises projects for the summer holidays. You may find that your message falls on very receptive ears.
